SCherrfy Angioma assessment and treatment at GP Private Services is led by Dr Sumit Aggarwal, an experienced GP with dermatology-focused qualifications and clinical experience.
GP Private Services offers assessment-led review and treatment advice for selected suitable cherry angioma lesions from a private clinic in Poole, serving patients across Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset.
Each lesion is reviewed first to check whether it appears suitable for treatment. If there is diagnostic uncertainty, suspicious change or concern that the lesion may need further assessment, appropriate next steps will be discussed.
What Are Cherry Angiomas?
Cherry angiomas are common benign red or purple skin lesions caused by small blood vessels close to the skin surface. They often appear on the trunk, arms or shoulders and may increase with age.
They are usually harmless, but some can bleed if knocked, catch on clothing or become cosmetically unwanted. Not every red or purple lesion is a cherry angioma, so assessment is important before treatment.
Assessment before treatment
Before treatment, the lesion will be assessed to check whether it appears consistent with a seborrhoeic keratosis and suitable for treatment.
If the lesion is changing, bleeding, crusting, unusually dark, irregular, painful, inflamed, uncertain in appearance or not clearly benign, treatment may not be offered and a mole check, biopsy, referral, minor surgery or specialist dermatology assessment may be advised instead.
Treatment options
Suitable seborrhoeic keratoses may be treated with CryoPen O+ cryotherapy or another appropriate minor procedure depending on the size, thickness, site, symptoms and clinical assessment.
The most suitable approach will be discussed during your appointment, including expected healing, aftercare and possible risks such as redness, blistering, pigment change, scarring, incomplete response or recurrence.

Cryotherapy, including CryoPen treatment, is not used for suspicious pigmented lesions or lesions needing proper diagnostic assessment.
Cherry Angioma Treatment FAQs
Are cherry angiomas dangerous?
Cherry angiomas are usually benign. However, not every red or purple lesion is a cherry angioma. If a lesion is changing, bleeding unexpectedly, irregular, crusting, painful, rapidly growing or uncertain, it should be assessed before treatment.
Do you use CryoPen O+ for cherry angiomas?
CryoPen O+ may be used for selected benign cherry angiomas after clinical assessment. Treatment is only offered where the lesion appears suitable and clinically appropriate.
Can cherry angiomas be treated in one visit?
Many suitable cherry angiomas can be treated in one appointment, depending on the number, size, site and appearance of the lesions. This is confirmed during assessment.
When should I book a mole or lesion review instead?
Book a mole or skin lesion review instead if the lesion is changing, bleeding unexpectedly, irregular, crusting, painful, rapidly growing, unusually dark, pigmented or not clearly benign. In these cases, assessment and possible referral may be more appropriate than immediate treatment.
